Meal Plan Accommodation or Adjustment Requests
The Meal Plan Contract covers an entire academic year and all undergraduate students living in university-owned housing are required to have a meal plan.
What is a Meal Plan Adjustment Request?
A Meal Plan Adjustment Request is a request to reduce to a meal plan that is lower than the requirement for the student’s housing assignment or a request for an exemption from the meal plan. These requests may be financial and/or religious in nature. Meal Plan Adjustments are not automatic and are generally given only for well-documented, extraordinary circumstances. Location of residence hall and lifestyle diets (vegan, weight loss, etc.) are not considered extenuating circumstances for a meal plan adjustment.
What is a Meal Plan Accommodation Request?
A Meal Plan Accommodation Request is a formal request for special dietary support, a change from the allowable meal plan options or a full meal plan exemption based on medical documentation. Meal Plan Accommodations are not automatic and are generally given only for well-documented, extraordinary circumstances. Location of residence hall is not considered an extenuating circumstance for a meal plan accommodation.
Can I be released from the meal plan if I follow a special diet?
Lehigh University Dining Services is able to accommodate most students with allergies to eggs, fish, milk, peanuts, sesame, shellfish, soy, tree nuts, and wheat, intolerances to gluten, as well as vegetarian, vegan, and religious dietary restrictions, so citing these dietary restrictions are not typically approved as a reason to be released from the meal plan. Additionally, Halal-certified meat is served in Rathbone Dining Hall and at the Purple Pita food truck.
View our Dining with Dietary Restrictions Guide for more information about plant-based or special dietary information.
